ELKINS — The Tygarts Valley Scottish Rite Masons did their part on “GivingTuesday” by making donations at both the West Virginia Children’s Home and the Randolph County Homeless Shelter this week.
The organization makes annual donations each year during the holiday season, with part of the funding usually comes from benefit pancake breakfasts they offer throughout the year. But with COVID-19 rearing its ugly head in 2020, the Masons were unable to have any pancake feeds, so a majority of the funds were raised by club members selling giveaway tickets.
“Our members really stepped up to the challenge and pushed our fundraiser giveaway tickets this year,” said Tygarts Valley Scottish Rite Masons President Bob Arbogast. “I cannot thank our members and their families enough for all the hard work they put forth in order to raise the funds and push our ticket sales over the top. They are truly an amazing group.”
The organization’s first stop of the day was at the Children’s Home, where they presented a $750 check to WVCH Director Chedella Ware. Those funds will be used to purchase Christmas gifts or clothing for residents at the home.
The Mason’s second stop was at the Homeless Shelter, where they dropped off $800 worth of food and supplies.
“It really feels good when we can help those that don’t have enough, or in some cases anything at all,” said Arbogast. “The items we dropped off at the Homeless Shelter will help provide a lot of things they need. And as far as the kids at the Children’s Home goes, we just wanted to make sure they have a good Christmas.”
Arbogast also wanted to thank the many area businesses who donated and discounted prices for items purchased.
The organization already has its giveaway prizes set for next year and tickets will be on sale soon. First prize will be a Savage-Axis XP 350 Legend bolt action rifle.
Second prize will be an Amish jelly cupboard, and third a $200 Exxon Mobil gas card.
