Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States, founded in 1630 by settlers from England. Today, Boston is a thriving port city. Boston is the capital and most populous city of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the United States. It also the most populous city in New England. Greater Boston is home to 4.8 million people. The wider commuting region is home to some 8.2 million people, making it the sixth most populous in the United States.
