Domestic Violence Shelter and Services

Domestic Violence Shelter and Services, Inc. was established as a non-profit agency, 501 (c) (3), in January, 1986 through the consolidation of the community’s two existing domestic violence programs. They work toward empowering the increasing number of victims and their families to break the cycle of domestic violence through support from New Hanover County and other local sources (civic groups, religious groups, businesses, private citizens, and governments). Income is also generated locally by the agency’s operation of the Vintage Values Resale Shops.

The Open Gate is located at 2901 Market Street and allows for increased public awareness and support of the agency’s services and the issue of domestic violence, increased accessibility for currently underserved populations and for future expansion of services, including a Community Resource Center.
