Eclectic Sound’s Dr. M. caught jazz trombonist, Eric Goletz and his tight quintet in action playing in New Jersey. The piece they are playing here was written by the incomparable jazz guitarist, Wes Montgomery but the set included noteworthy original works by Goletz such as “The Cat” with intricate Afro-Cuban rhythms, “Oasis” and “The Journey” tenderly written in homage to his wife of 26 years.
Stand outs were his fresh rendition of a Cole Porter standard, “What is This Thing Called Love?” and “Matchmaker” from Fiddler on the Roof. John Coltrane’s “Mr. DC” rounded out the 2 set performance with a smoking “burner” to finish it off. Goletz performs with Bangladesh Revisited Charity Concerts in support of relief efforts for that country.
