FIRSTHAND Living in Poverty: The Food Insecurity Crisis in Illinois

WTTW partnered with the Greater Chicago Food Depository for a conversation about food equity in Illinois — part of the Firsthand: Living in Poverty event series. The discussion was moderated by Dan Protess, executive producer and featured the story of Patricia Jackson, a mother of three from Roseland who has both relied on food assistance and works for WIC. Patricia was joined by Deputy Governor Sol Flores and Food Depository Executive Director Kate Maehr, chairs of the Illinois Commission to End Hunger, and Pastor Antonio Mariscal of Iglesia Evangelica Food Pantry in Belmont Cragin.

You can watch the entire FIRSTHAND: Living in Poverty documentary series on the PBS app and at wttw.com/firsthand, where you will also find companion expert talks, text journalism, a discussion guide, and more.
