How to Have a DIY Spa Night at Home

[ad_1]

If you can’t leave home a DIY spa night at home might be just the self-care you need.

There are many reasons a single mom might want a spa night at home. Maybe your friends are busy,  the kids are with their dad, and you are looking for something to do on a night alone. A spa treatment was a favorite way for me to spend a night alone.

On the other hand a diy spa night is a fun way to spend a girls night in. Another adavantage of a diy spa night is that the price tag is significantly less than a day at the spa.

I have sons, but I dreamed of having spa nights with the daughters I never had. It may have been more a dream than reality. If you have a daughter maybe she would love to have a mother daughter spa night at home.

Moms especially single moms are notorious for taking care of everybody else and neglecting themselves. If you are one of those moms you need more than a spa night. You need a full self care plan, but a spa night is a good start.

Remember it is much easier to take care of your family when you spend some time taking care of you. When you don’t take care of you it is like trying to pour water from an empty pitcher. You have nothing to give to others, when you don’t take care of yourself.

It is fun to have a spa night at home with friends, but there are also advantages of having a DIY spa night alone. No worrying about other people’s schedules and it is easier to have a hot bath and deep condition your hair if you are the only one at home.

Background to Set the Mood

When I am having a spa night alone I often choose romantic comedy.

When you are having a spa night with friends it is nice to listen to some chill music making it easier to chat.

Candles or Diffuser

You can make some lovely candles of your own with vintage class ware that you can pick up at a second hand store or garage sale for a dollar or two. If you can’t find vintage glassware Mason jars will work. All you need are wicks, wax, and something to melt the wax in.

If you don’t want to take the time to make candles just buy a few to set the mood.

Snacks for Spa Night

This can be as easy or as complicated as you want it to be. When I am having a spa night alone cheese, crackers, wine and fruit are my go to.

If you are having friends over for a spa night in you might want to make some finger food that take a little more effort. It is nice to include at least one sweet option and one savory option. Your favorite chocolate can be the sweet and you can make someting savory to go with it.

For beverages wine, sparkling water or spa water are all good options. Spa water is water that has been infused with fruit, herbs or cucumbers. An infusion pitcher makes this super simple.

I was suprised how refeshing cucumber water was the first time I had it at a friend’s house. I grow mint and basil in the summer and both are good with lemon or lime slices.

An at Home Spa Night for a Night in Alone

Hair Mask

If you are having a spa night alone it is lovely to deep condition your hair. You can use a deep conditioner or you can use coconut oil. I like the smell of coconut oil so often choose that. Put coconut oil on your hair and hen wrap it in a towel or plastic wrap.  Let your hair soak in the coconut oil while you are taking a hot bath. The shampoo your hair.

Warm Bath

If you are having a spa night alone a warm bath is relaxing. You can add bath bombs or Epson salt and essential oils. Epson salt is great for relieving aches and pains.

You can also make your own bath bombs. If you are having a spa night with friends you might make some bath bombs or bath salts together before doing manicures and pedicures. Then you will each have some to take home.

Lavender Bath Bombs

Headache Bath Bombs with Soothing Essential Oils

You can also make a sugar scrub with coconut oil, sugar, and essential oils. This is a gentle exfoliator for your lips or your whole body. When I use a sugar scrub I either do it during a shower or at the end of my bath. Something about relaxing in sugar water just doesn’t do it for me.

DIY Spa Treatments with Friends or Alone

Facial

Wash off your make up and use your sugar scrub to exfoliate. Lastly use a homemade face mask or buy a detoxifying mask.

Pedicure and Manicure

If you are having a spa night alone take your nail polish off and shape your nails before you take a bath. Then once you have your bath, facial and condition your hair you can polish your nails while watching a movie.

If you are having a spa night with friends you can put on your facial mask and start your manicure. Be sure to have your snacks before you start polishing your nails so that you don’t mess up the polish.

You can use regular nail polish and it will last a few days if you are lucky or get a gel polish kit and your manicure will last up to 2 weeks. Regular polish is fine for a pedicure they usually last two weeks or more anyway if you use a good base coat and topcoat.

Extra Luxuries

Foot Massager

I have this one and it is the next best thing to having someone give me a foot massage. With this you can get a foot massage while you are doing your nails.

Bath Pillow

A bath pillow is a nice touch on a spa night.

Now you have the ideas and schedule you need to pamper yourself with an at-home spa night to let go of stress, feel pretty and pampered. Best of all you will be able to enjoy all this pampering at a fraction of the cost it would be for a day at a regular spa.
