Human trafficking sting: Independence Police Blotter


INDEPENDENCE, Ohio

Sex crime: Patriots Way

Officers from the Independence, Orange and Beachwood police departments; the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office; members of the Cuyahoga County Regional Human Trafficking Task Force; and Homeland Security took part in an operation at 3 p.m. Oct. 19 to “suppress sex buyers” at a Hilton Hotel, police reports said.

Two felony arrests were made as a result of the investigation.

Assault: Quarry Lane

A woman reported being assaulted by her ex-boyfriend at 1:28 a.m. Oct. 19 when the man arrived at the hotel where the victim and her friend were staying. The victim said the man hit her with his fist and cell phone.

She said she tried to leave the room and that the man pulled her back inside. Witnesses who heard the woman screaming and banging on the hotel room walls called police.

The woman was taken to Marymount Hospital for treatment of her injuries, including a laceration to her head. The suspect was later found by police and arrested for assault.

Theft: Rockside Woods Boulevard

A woman reported more than $5,000 worth of clothing and other items stolen from her room at Embassy Suites Oct. 18. There were no suspects or any further evidence available at the time of the report.
