Mexico’s women turn federal building into shelter for gender violence victims

Women in Mexico have been facing higher levels of gender-based violence during the coronavirus pandemic.
An average of 10 women is murdered every day.
With shelters underfunded due to government cuts, a group of women have occupied the building of the National Commission of Human Rights in Mexico City, converting it into a shelter for gender-based violence victims and their children.

Al Jazeera meets Erika Martinez, one of the women who has found refuge there.
