The People City Mission served Thanksgiving meals to the homeless today.
“It’s kind of a really hard time for everybody but you know, it’s especially hard for those people who are homeless and struggling,” said Pastor Tom Barber. “So, we’re really excited to have Thanksgiving dinner for them because it means so much. It’s important that everybody gets to celebrate and be thankful for something because we all have something to be thankful for.”

Pastor Tom says though there is a pandemic, the homeless still have to be served. Volunteers wore masks and served each person at tables of four. One man told Channel 8 he liked helping prepare the meal and a woman shared with us what she is thankful for.

“We probably have 120 pounds of turkey back there,” said Scott Brown. “You take them in separate the bones of the skin and bristle and all that stuff. Save the skin and the bones to make stock to make this wonderful gravy, which I’ve eaten most of.”

A caseworker found an apartment for me,” said Betty Rector. “We’ve been working on that for September. So I’m really happy about that. And it’s wonderful not having to sleep in your car.”
Pastor Tom says he is thankful for the community support so they can continue to help those in need.
