A man is facing human trafficking charges after a woman told Durham police she was being forced to work in the sex trade.
Police talked to the 19-year-old victim back in November and she said two men were taking all of her money as she was trafficked to different hotels across the province.
She told police she had met one of the suspects, Sydney Bunkuna, 22, of Toronto, on a dating app and the second suspect, Daniel Kaniki, 25, of no fixed address, was also involved in the process.
Bunkuna was arrested in November while allegedly trying to flee the province with the victim.
Police issued a warrant for Kaniki and he was arrested in Hamilton Thursday.
Kaniki is charged with procuring a person to provide sexual services for consideration, financial benefit trafficking person over 18 years of age, material benefit from sexual services, trafficking in persons by exercising control, obtaining sexual services for consideration and advertising another person’s sexual services.
