Serbia: Pets pampered at Belgrade’s rescue shelter

Rescued dogs, cats and their owners took shelter in one of Belgrade’s rescue camps as efforts continued in the country on Tuesday. Thousands have been evacuated amid the severe flooding, while many still await rescue.

The flooding across the country has left more than 15 dead but the official death toll has yet to be revealed. Serbian rescue workers are being aided by Russian EMERCOM teams alongside teams from 14 other EU member states.

Severe flooding across the Balkans, said to be the worst in over a century, has also claimed some 27 lives in Bosnia-Herzegovina and one reported death in Croatia. A state of emergency has been declared in the region.
