Using Mindfulness to Reduce Stress and Strengthen Your Immune System

The breast cancer community is under tremendous stress right now with COVID-19, between treatment changes and fears of contracting the virus. Now we’re approaching Mother’s Day—a difficult holiday for many. Some may also be grieving the loss of loved ones to COVID-19 or just feeling especially isolated and lonely, causing even more stress.

We interviewed BCRF investigator Dr. Julienne Bower, associate professor of psychology and psychiatry at UCLA, who studies stress and how it impacts the immune system. She investigates mind-body interventions, such as mindfulness, and works with Diana Winston, director of mindfulness education at UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center, who also joined in.
